Susy McPhee: Husbands and Lies

Me bad feeling there which is explained throughout the book The final character in the story who is of any importance is Greg a work colleague and friend of Fran s Again he was another great characterSusy s writing is also rather gripping I finished the book in under 4 hours because once I was sucked in I just wanted to know how it was going to pan out There are lots of twists and turns throughout the book some surprising than others I suppose that s the only fault I can pick with the book all of the twists and turns weren t surprising for me I had guessed every single one coming None of them had the shock factor that I would have expected The ending was surprisingly uite sad in many ways but it really workedOverall I really enjoyed reading Husbands and Lies It s certainly not what I expected and I m pleased for that It s also certainly not like most chick lit on the market and efinitely has a grittier soul to it The cover is totally wrong for the book it makes the book seem lighter than it truly is Will in the World despite the way it s written I hugely recommend Husbands and Lies it really was a great read My only minorisappointment being I had guessed all of the twists Although it could be that I was supposed to guess them in which case Susy wins I thought this uick read was perfect for a chill out afternoon Interesting story of love and infidelity with unexpected twists in the tale I would have given a five star rating but for the rushed ending I June Fourth Elegies didn t like how it ended at all Otherwise it is a well written book with humour enmeshed within harsh realities of life Version Audiobook Narrator Jane Collingwood This is theebut novel of this writer but you would not believe it from the assurance with which she writes The basic premise of the story is a little far fetched but believable a terminally ill woman asks her friend to scout out Baby and Child Vegetarian Recipes dating websites in order for them to write an advert for her husband so that he will not mope over hereath when she is gone I mean it is not a nice thing for someone to try and control who her husband may or may not meet but you can understand that someone facing The Confabulist death from cancer may not be thinking so rationally anyway and would merely want to see her husband and youngaughter looked afterSo the central character of Fran acts upon her friend s reuest and finds what she believes is the picture of her husband on the Der Illusionist dating site The rest of the tale follows the conseuences of this findWhat I liked about the book was the clarity of the prose it was lovely writing thatrew you in and helped you suspend your Enticing (PI Men to the Rescue disbelief I had made it to page 241 before I was shaken out of my absorption by this sentence I can t believe I moing this hanging around street corners waiting to catch my friend s husband making whoopee with your fiancee just so that I can get my husband back which Spring Comes to Sanctuary (Welcome to Sanctuary, does highlight the ridiculousness of the eventual predicament that Fran finds herself inI found that the majority of the characters were wellrawn barring Adam who manages to remain the villain of the piece and is rather two imensionalThe thing I liked most though was how clearly McPhee rew upon her own experiences with suffering through the illness and Riding Class (Saddle Club, death of a friend that had cancer to lend compassion and elegance to the scenes between Fran and AlisonA memorable book Audiobook narration as good as always from Jane Collingwood however the story was rather silly frustrating and shallow as were the characters Made me laugh and made me cry The narration was the icing on the cake as it made the audiobook really enjoyable I willefinitely be looking for from this author Recommende. Uspects her husband's cheating and can't bear to confront him outright Posing as 'Sassy' Fran sends a reply to 'Footloose' and sets out to Silver Stirrups (Saddle Club, date her own husband But this increasingly crazy plan leads Max to start to haveoubts of his own Torn between suspicion and love life for Fran just got very complicated can her marriage survi.

Being an avid reader of chick lit as people call it I was expecting the same sort of thingI was surprised at several turns of events and felt sad that it reflects life in as much as simple occurrences can look so guilt riddenAlso people will judge on what they know or believe to be true and it sometimes has to slap you in the face for you to realise the real Different Class depth of what is happeningI feel it has many lessons for us underneath what could be viewed as a light hearted read we all take people for granted especially those that should mean the most to uswe take things at face value when we should lookeeperwe should realise that something that can seem innocent to someone else could appear guilt riddenI look forward to reading another of hers This book has been sitting in my tbr pile for 4 or 5 years When I started this one I had a Short Stories by Roald Dahl different set of feelings than when I finished it up The name of the protagonist and what her best friend was going through are very close to my heart for some reasons I can t state here I related to it at that level at least I bought the book because of the interesting plot However as I ventured forward I saw it was a bit slow and not what I thought it would be There were too many adverbs adverbso nothing but kill a story There were too many loopholes for me of course the writer knows it better since it s her creation If it were up to me I would have added so much to make it interestingI kept reading wanting to get finished with it sooner than later Again a major turn off for me was how it became a love triangle out of nowehere I felt like there was too much not said and Goldilocks the Three Bears done The characters just plunged in to whatever was happening totally personal opinion It felt incompleteThe end however broke me apart It made me relive the events that happened exactly a year ago It brought back all the pain the ache and the tears I thought were shed for goodDespite everything that might seem off with the book it sits at that special place in my heart where all the books I can never forget rest It s not a recommendation for anyone looking for a light read It might seem like it but there is less humor and emotions in the book It is full of events that might sound unrealistic but I can relate to the writer on a mucheeper level because I used to make up events similar to those in my imagination and enacted upon them it s a creative method for me to make up new stories I feel a connection with the author because somehow our imagination is interlinked She made me realize that I am not a weird one to create such situations that might be unrealistic for some but can take place nonethelessThe possibilities are endless Oh well I cried when I got to page 4 I like it The storyline is not complicated but the feeling it had given me when I read it was nothing short of warm and cozy which is easy to appreciate I enjoyed reading this book it had a lovely story line very funny but the main character was so irritating I wouldn t say it was the best read ever because it was very predictable and i felt like the ending of the book was flat but either way i id enjoy it Fran is happily married to Max and has a young aughter Lottie as well as a bunch of fantastic friends including Alison Fran s best friend Fran s world is rocked though when Alison becomes terminally ill and even so when Alison asks Fran to Socialist Realism do her a favour She wants Fran to log onto aating site and find her husband Adam a new wife for when she s not around Fran reluctantly logs onto the I Look Up To... Michelle Obama dating site only toiscover a picture that looks suspiciously like Max under the member name of Footloose To try and find. There are some people you'd Doctor Extraño do anything for For Fran that list would include her husband Max heraughter and her best friend Alison Only Alison is now esperately ill and she needs Fran's help She wants to find her husband a new wife and leave her young aughter with a new mother Fran finds the whole idea eeply uncomfortable but.

Out why her husband is a member of a ating site Fran signs up under the member name of Sassy and sets out to trap her own husband and find out the truth But will Fran s attempts to catch Max in the act lead to the end of her marriageI have to admit that I only came across Susy McPhee s books after Chloe reviewed her Feminism is for Everybody debut novel Husbands Lies I wasn t totally sure if it was a book that appealed to me but when I saw it in the book swop Iecided to pick it up and give it a go I then received Susy s second book from her publishers for review and both books have sat on my shelf for at least 6 months I kept remembering the opening line from Husbands Lies and thought it was probably time to try Susy McPhee s Deterring Democracy debut novelAs I said it was the opening line of the book that reallyrew me in My mother taught me to lie is how the book begins and from then on I was hooked The book isn t an easy read far from it but the way in which it s written Comet in Moominland (The Moomins, doesn t let the sad stuff bog the bookown Instead it feels lighter than it actually is It s certainly not your average chick lit book there s no main character who thinks she s fat or is worried about her job et al instead it s a bit grittier and the story is probably true to life than most chick lit books Hunters Heart despite Alison s rather strange reuest The entire book hinges on Alison s Fran s terminally ill friend asking Fran to go online to find her husband a new wife after sheies Which may sound morbid when read like that but the way in which Alison and Fran Menneskefluene (K2 deals with the reuest makes it seem not so morbid after allAfter Alison s rather shocking reuest Franoes as she s told and that s where everything takes off Because whilst browsing the Nazi Gold dating website Fran comes across an all too familiar photograph in the shape of her husband Max who is masuerading as Footloose It sends Fran into an expected tailspin at the thought that Max her husband of 12 years could be so callous as to set himself up on aating site Mr Majeika and the School Inspector despite the fact he s very married and has a young child For me that was the best part of the book Fran s reaction to Max s proposed betrayal It s written in a very real style and I could see why Fran was soistressed Susy McPhee portrays all of Fran s emotions incredibly well which just makes the story all the better After Fran finds out about Max she Selected Poems decides to pose as another member on theating site Sassy and see if he ll meet up with her so she can catch him red handed Again it s another clever twist to the tale and the unfolding of the entire plot was great to read because there are a lot of uestions to be answeredSusy McPhee is really great at crafting her characters As I said Fran was a fantastic leading female character Because of everything that s happening to her her best friend ying her husband being a possible love rat Fran could have just sat in a corner and cried and been well within her rights to o so But she idn t she was strong and although sometimes the things happening o get her own the majority of the time she manages to hold it all in I liked that I appreciate a strong female lead and Fran carried the story beautifully Max Fran s husband is surprisingly absent through the majority of the book and only pops up every now and again That oes of course is like fuel to the fire in regards of whether or not he is a cheat Alison Fran s ill best friend is a central character to the book and I actually thought she was fantastic Much like Fran she The Train Robbers doesn t let her problems get herown and was strong even with her No Reason To Die diagnosis We also see a little of Fran s family her mother and sister but not too much as there sefinitely so. It's hard to refuse your closest friend at the best of times let alone ignore her Naked Risk (Shatterproof dying wishes So Fran reluctantly logs on to an internetating site where she stumbles across a startlingly familiar profile 'Footloose' Raking The Ashes describes himself asivorced but his photo looks exactly like Fran's husband Max What's a wife to o when she
