Iew This paints such a believable picture of the uture that it s actually a little scary and makes you think hard about what s important right now The ending was a little swift but only because I wanted it to go on The Soul Of A Thief forever 55 starsReader review Smashwords This was a real surprise to me I d only read The Apprentice by Gordon Houghton before this and that blew me away but hhe seemed to stop writing because I haven t seen anything since Then I was doing a random search on last year andound a Claiming His Desert Princess (Hot Arabian Nights few so I picked this one up because of the reviews and it gripped merom Secret Baby, Surprise Parents first to last It s SF rather than the dark comic horror of The Apprentice but it s just as beautifully and poignantly written with moments of grim comedy to lighten the load I won t reveal the plot but it s a great metaphoror how we suppress the rebellious side of ourselves in exchange Mystify (Mystyx, for a comfortable life and how that suppression can cause a suddenlowering of resistance Well that s just the main plot there s a subplot too which is all about human The New Baby fertility and the knots ofeeling it binds us with A very emotional gripping read set in an all too believable dystopian Wild Streak future Highly recommended With population control computers that monitor and control your livelihood to inserted digital chips that carry and track every aspect of your life this is auture world that already exists in some P.I. Tc but its creativity depth and breadth should make it a classic outside of sci i Buy it 55 starsReader review I think the scariest thing about Max is that a lot of it is already happening And that s what makes this a great book as well as providing us a vision of a dystopian authoritarian Rafaellos Mistress future the author manages a scathing commentary on the apathy of contemporary society We don t care what civil liberties are taken awayrom us as long as there s something new and shiny to buy Max documents a society where this political and corporate shadow puppet show has been going on The Boleyn King (The Boleyn Trilogy, for decades erodingreedoms one slice at a time There s also some interesting stuff going on with the titular protagonist here and the author completely understands that the best mysteries are those left tantalisingly unexplained He constantly manages to mess with your perception of who or what Max is and just as you re getting comfortable introduces something else that turns your ideas on their heads There s a deft touch to it and at the end of the story the author had left it open enough that I started coming up with my own ideas about the character and the results of his actions which in turn made me re examine a story that I had already Rascal found uite compelling Most importantly the ideas stuck in my head and made me realise that we re all too close toulfilling this Orwellian nightmare My one criticism is that it starts out a little too busily with a lot of extraneous detail but the author uickly settles into a comfortable prose that conveys his ideas with ease Highly recommended 45 starsReader rev. Nto submission; an overpopulated planet defined by the One Mother One Child policy Into this.
